Panerozzo is a type of bread made by peasants in Italy’s Abruzzo Region. It is not commonly found in present day Italy. The bread is formed in a hemispherical shape and typically cooked on an open word fire. Panerozzo dates back many centuries. It is very difficult to find in modern supermarkets. In ancient times bread made with flour was much more expensive than parerozzo and was known as “pane signori”.
Pane rozzo is served at luncheon meals in the villages of Valle San Giovanni, Frondarola, and Valle Soprana in Abruzzo. .
